I remember gong swimming one summer and my brother and his girlfriend were there with their friends. My brother said he would teach me how to swim. "Alright", I said with a big smile.
We were out in the water on the floats ... Did you hear??.... Out on the floats ... over my head and I couldn't swim lick with a stick and believe me, I held on tight as if that float were sewn to me. We played and laid out to get some sun or color for our halter tops.
After playing and laying out, I finally started bugging my big brother to come teach me to swim. Finally, he came over and left his girlfriend talking to one of her friends and he carried me out over my head and was telling me what to do... Harder than it looked. Every time he let go, I would go a few inches then under I went.. Thank goodness he was there to catch me. I was starting to get the hang of it when all of a sudden we heard my brother's girlfriend yell for help........No not immediate danger ... it was all in fun with friends..... Can you tell what happened next??
Yep, he left me high and dry or should I say wet.........even took the floating device. I was in a panic... Couldn't swim and he leaves me for a girl... come on now.. I am blood.. :)
Okay picture this........ to some of us old enough to remember those little short films in school about safety; this is what crossed my mind.... okay, now if I start yelling HELP as I bob back up on surface, surely someone will hear me and come to my rescue........
"HELP, and now came the remembered of holding up fingers........ HELP and one finger went up....... no one came.......... under I went and flapped my arms to get me back to the surface... HELP then two fingers came and went back down with me..... Well, by this time, I was more frantic because of all the people in the water with me......why is no one coming to SAVE me.... and we know what happened in the short films when three fingers come up and nothing happens... ?? drown...........
Okay, I thought to myself, If I ever make it out of here alive, I am gonna kill my brother... So, up one last time... HELP HELP and three fingers pop up out of the water and still no one to the rescue... I go back under and so .... deciding not to drown that day and no swimming could I do(because someone left me)..... i decided to calm down under water and try to touch bottom.... I went down touched bottom and pushed hard against the dirt to thrust back up on top... It worked and luckily I wasn't too far from the drop off ledge and after a couple of times, I grabbed that ledge with my big toe and catapulted back on to the water where I could stand...
I made it... YAYYYY... but mad as a hornet. I made it to the bank/shore and stood there and asked my family and friends.. why in the heck did they not see me out there yelling for help...... Response..... We thought you were playing around as everyone else out there.... I almost but drowned my fool self while you were watching. And to my brother.... He forgot..... He forgot?? Oh to be in love at that age ......... me, I thought sister would come first.... Little did I know .. :)
After that, I learned how to swim.... Not a great swimmer but enough to get where I am going, I am a better swimmer underneath the water..So I guess that day under water trying to make it back to shore, did some good...
Lesson learned.... NEVER go swimming with a brother that is with a girlfriend......He will drop you like a stone..
OH. by the way.. I did get him back..... :)
Thanks-----
